Our School Allotment

Since September, our school allotment has undergone an incredible transformation thanks to the dedication, hard work and enthusiasm of our wonderful allotment volunteers. What was once a tired, overgrown and unused space has been brought back to life and developed into a beautiful, thriving allotment that our children are proud to call their own.

The allotment provides a valuable hands-on learning experience for pupils across the school. Children have been involved in every stage of the growing process, from sowing seeds and planting crops to caring for the plants, harvesting produce and, most importantly, tasting the fruits of their labour. There is nothing quite like the excitement of picking and eating strawberries that you have grown yourself!

Throughout the year, pupils have learned about healthy eating, sustainability, wildlife and where food comes from. The allotment has become an outdoor classroom where curiosity, teamwork and responsibility flourish.

One of the most special features of our allotment is the memorial bench, dedicated to Margaret, a much-loved governor and friend of High Green Primary School. Margaret gave many years of service to our school community and was passionate about ensuring every child had the opportunity to thrive. The bench provides a peaceful place for reflection and remembrance, allowing children, staff and visitors to enjoy the beauty of the allotment while celebrating Margaret's lasting legacy.

We are incredibly grateful to our dedicated volunteers whose vision, commitment and countless hours of work have made this project possible. Their efforts have created a lasting legacy that will benefit our children for many years to come.

We look forward to continuing to grow, learn and harvest together.
