Welcome to the Y5 class for 2026-2027!
STEM Workshop
On Monday 5th October, Y5 were lucky enough to take part in an exciting STEM workshop with Kids Invent Stuff and Arduino.
The children learned about electrical circuits, coding and how technology can be used to solve problems. They explored key electronic components including Arduino boards, breadboards, jumper wires, piezo speakers and potentiometers, learning how each part helps a circuit function.
Working in teams, the children carefully followed instructions to build their own electronic circuits, connecting components on a breadboard and wiring them to an Arduino controller. They then connected the circuit to pieces of fruit, turning them into touch-sensitive musical instruments. By touching different parts of the fruit, the children changed the electrical readings being sent to the Arduino, which then played different musical notes through a speaker.
The workshop was a fantastic opportunity for the children to develop their teamwork, creativity and problem-solving skills while gaining hands-on experience of real-world engineering and computer programming.
Georgie - ''We put a circuit together, put a wire through a piece of fruit and when you touched the fruit, the music started to play.''
